I need your help.

I have found a $15 iTunes gift card, and I want to know which CD I should buy!
I want your opinions, all of you out there in the blog-o-sphere.
From reading your blogs I know that you have some pretty good music taste, similar to my own even.

I want you to tell me what some of your favorite albums might be.
You know what? It doesn't even have to be your ultimate favorite. Those are so hard to narrow down, aren't they? At least for me.
I am going on a road trip on Wednesday so if you wanted you could let me know of your favorite road trip album, perhaps. One that you know every word to, one that you can sing along to at the top of your lungs.
I may or may not already own it, but that is not the point.
The point is that I want your opinions on my purchase.

Oh, and while we're on the subject. What is your favorite book?! I'm looking for a new read. I love all sorts of books save the scary ones. Since I do a large portion of my reading before bed, scary books get my mind racing at the most inopportune time.

Alright guys, ready, set, GO!

  1. "Broken Bride" by Ludo. Good album. Ive listened to it many times in a row before on a long trip. That is my suggestion.

  2. Thank you Tyler! I'll give it a listen!

  3. Hey Emmy: these are oldies but goodies: two of my favorite albums (cds) "Simon & Garfunkel Greatest hits" from 1972 and "Carole King Tapestry" from 1971 (i said OLDIE ... ha). Good books (you've probably already read these: To Kill a Mockingbird and Gone with the Wind...two of my favorites. LOVE niece...from Aunt Cathy

  4. My favotite favorite FAVORITE is "A Larem" by Johnny Flynn! oh my gosh, so good. I also love "Mignonette" by the avett brothers. Oh, and "Bomb in a Birdcage" by a Fine Frenzy is also wonderful!

Let's see...good books...Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is very good! Also Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers...not lame like the title might sound. :] Good luck and have fun on your trip!

  5. I would love to help!

For upbeat, simple, and happy should definitely check out: "Love. Life. Ukulele." by Sophie Madeleine and as for books? I have not had the chance to read it yet...but I've heard that 'Water for Elephants' by Sara Gruen is divine.

I hope you enjoy if you so happen to check them out. :)

  6. please promise me that you will read the book "God Shaped Hole" -- i swear it will change your life... forever {no, i am not kidding!} you can get it on amazon for like 10 bucks...

i've been listening to the swell season a lot lately... and mat kearney... and who doesn't love death cab?

    ;) happy listening. xo

  7. AHH Thank you so much for all of these suggestions! It looks like I will probably be spending more than my allotted $15.

  8. "Deja Intendu" by Brand New, but you already have that probably. Any She & Him CD. Any Lights CD. I love love love City & Colour (Dallas Green = dream boat with dream beard)

As for books two I would recommend would be "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (So many good quotes and an interesting theme) and "Freakonomics" (if you really like interesting statistics about American society and how our personal lives play into our economy, this is a good read)

  9. you should use the money and make a mixed CD instead! a must for any summer mixed CD would be any bright eyes songs. oh and the thermals.

my favorite book is the wind up bird chronicles by haurki murakami, you should read it when you have some time (it's kind of a long one...)

  10. Mmmm Death Cab, Brand New, She & Him, Bright Eyes, Avett Brothers, Mat Kearney...

You guys are speaking my language!

And for some of these artists that I didn't know before, thank you for sharing! Allie, you have a great idea. I really should just purchase individual songs and make a mixed cd, perhaps consisting of all of yalls fantastic suggestions. Hmm just a thought.
    Thanks guys!

  11. Music suggestion: a local band from Florida called the Grecian Urns, their album is called Lovedream. They're SO good! (Also, I like anything by The Avett Brothers, Ingrid Michaelson, Glen Hansard, etc.)

As for books... I recommend anything by Barbara Kingsolver, especially The Poisonwood Bible, Prodigal Summer, and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. Also Michael Pollan, if you like books about food. His are The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food. I also love classics like the LOTR series. And Harry Potter. If you don't love Harry Potter, I'm not sure if we can be friends.

  12. Hahaha, don't worry April. Harry Potter is my jam! I've read them all way more than once.

  13. Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog, Emmy. You are just the cutest thing I've ever seen.

  14. oh, and Ingrid Michaelson. Go.

  15. I would buy Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix from Phoenix or Little Joy's or Those dancing days to cheer up

  16. ^^ What she said. anything PHOENIX. They are awesome. and also Passion pit of ellie goulding. She is really great and has a lovelyvoice.

  17. Love Love Phoenix and Passion Pit. Very roadtrippy bands. I like where your heads are at!

  18. i *LOVE* passion pit too. or even the temper trap. their song sweet disposition is the best. but, karen o and the kids song called "all is love" always makes me smile. :]

  19. I know you're about to leave so maybe you can look into some when you get back buuuut
Band of Horses, St. Vincent, She & Him, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Ingrid Michaelson, Jenny Owen Youngs, The Avett Brothers, The Shins, The Civil Wars.
Brand New will always be my all time favorite.
