New.

I've finally gotten around to bettering my blog and updating banner graphics to a point of satisfaction, and I've decided to share the story behind the photos above for those who have yet to hear it.

About three years ago I found a polaroid of my mother sitting on a car. The photo was taken in the mid to late 70's when my mother was around 18 or 19 years old. I, at this time, was about the same age. Under the assumption that the car belonged to her, I thought that it would be a neat idea to take a polaroid of myself on my own car, mirroring the image. I blew the photos up to about six or seven inches and framed them as a mother's day gift. Presently, the photos are hanging quite nicely adjacent to each other in the downstairs bathroom.
Come to find out later on, the car in the photograph wasn't my mother's after all. Needless to say, she still adored the gift.

On a related notion, Wednesday is also my mom's birthday, which I think is why I felt the urge to utilize these pictures in some form or fashion.
I am, however, at a loss of more creative gift ideas, which is a first.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear from you!

  2. Aww, what a cute story!

My sister always does extremely creative gifts for birthdays/other holidays. For Daddy's birthday this year she wrote and performed a Birthday Rap with her boyfriend. It was HILARIOUS, and we have it on video. For Mother's Day last year, she wrote a little ... monologue thing, I guess, and did a dramatic reading with her guitar. For my birthday she did a huge drawing of Mark and I with pastels.

And for HER birthday this year, I found a quote about sisters, and made it really pretty on scrapbooking paper, and put it all in a 12x12 frame. Hopefully she likes it. You could do something along those lines... (One of my favorite quotes to use for stuff like that is "I love you not only for what you are, but what I am when I am with you." -Roy Croft)

  6. Such a cute story!

One year I made my mother place mats for our dinner table. Whenever we use them, I always notice her smiling when she cleans up the table.

You take 11 x 17 paper and collage onto as many sheets as you have chairs for your table. You can use old wedding photos, baby pictures, poems, pressed flowers, ribbons, etc. Just make sure when you're done you laminate the paper on BOTH sides so that the paper doesn't get damaged.

Or if you don't want to collage, a cute theme would be to find a different pictures of the model of the car that your mom was sitting on, one for each decade, just to show how the car has changed over time. Even though it isn't her car, maybe you might want to use that idea?

On the morning of her birthday, make her breakfast and set the table using your new mats!

  9. I love etsy. Thanks, that is a good idea as well. Since her birthday is tomorrow, I won't be able to implement it this year. But for another upcoming holiday this will definitely be a contender in my mind! Thanks Cole!
